So we’ve all heard the news by now that Sam Raimi is going to be directing the Warcraft-based movie. In case you haven’t check out the Blizzard press release. Obviously we know its going to be about Warcraft but what is the storyline going to actually be? No one who knows is currently telling but I’m interested enough to take a few moments to post what I would and would not like to see from the movie.
Obviously the movie is going to have to be able to stand on it’s own to really do well in the box office, So you can generally go ahead and face that it’s not going to be picking up anywhere that would require tons of prior knowledge. Though Blizzard will undoubtedly be involved and I’m sure they’ll stick in some things just for us players and the lore buffs. I’m no master of lore but I’ll give you my hopes, dreams, and nightmares after the cut.
So as you may have realized from the title of this post I am not at all interested in seeing Arthas in this movie. It just seems like Arthas has been shoved down our throats for a long time now and I am much more interested in the struggle between azeroth and The Burning Legion. Besides, by the time this movie premieres we’ll have bent Arthas over our collective knees.
I think I would prefer to see a film created around the story of when The Burning Legion first appeared on azeroth and wreaked it’s havoc. Or a movie about the initial actual fight between Azeroth and The Burning Legion on their own turf. I want to see a movie about us finally taking the fight to them. Though I don’t recommend actually defeating The Legion in the movie. Though that does not mean they would not be able to take out a big baddie in the film. It could easily be a battle against Kil’Jaeden and his defeat then bringing about the return of Sargeras.
If they try to create a film based soully around the Horde-Alliance Conflict I feel they would be hard pressed to present a truly captivating movie. Plus neither side is really the bad guys anymore and I would be very afraid that they would favor the Alliance as the good guys simply because everyday people would be more easily able to connect with that faction as a whole. Also there is the issue of not being able to include all the races in the movie if they focus on an alliance v horde based movie since by the time the movie debuts we will most likely be just sinking our teeth into the next expansion and if rumours are true we’ll be seeing a couple new races in WoW 4.0.
Anyway, that’s my 2 copper worth. Feel free to share your thoughts on the subject below or by contacting me. I’m always looking forward to reading and responding to emails from visitors.
